NASHUA, New Hampshire (AP) -- Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is apologizing for saying the lives of the more than 3,000 U.S. troops killed in the Iraq war were "wasted."
During his first campaign trip this weekend, the Illinois senator told a crowd in Iowa: "We now have spent $400 billion and have seen over 3,000 lives of the bravest young Americans wasted." (Watch Obama announce his candidacy)
He immediately apologized on Sunday, saying the remark was "a slip of the tongue."
During an appearance Monday in Nashua, New Hampshire, he apologized again, telling reporters he meant to criticize the civilian leadership of the war, not those serving in the military.
"Even as I said it, I realized I had misspoken," Obama said. "It is not at all what I intended to say, and I would absolutely apologize if any (military families) felt that in some ways it had diminished the enormous courage and sacrifice that they'd shown."
Obama made his second visit to New Hampshire on Monday, following his speech Saturday announcing his candidacy in Illinois on Saturday and a visit to first-caucus state Iowa.

I, too, deny that we at war on terror. We're not. We're at war with the middle east, specifically Iraq. Just like the War on Drugs, the War on Terror is just empty rhetoric.
And your logic doesn't really work. It's similar to the "bear insurance" in one episode of The Simpsons.
Or, to tie this thread into another current topic, the USA has not been attacked since Jack Bauer appeared on television.
You can point out that something has not happened since a specific time, but you can't prove that the 2 things are definitively related.

I'm not sure how 'it isn't a waste because they knew what they were doing' makes sense.
If a bright young kid gets addicted to heroin and ends up strung-out for the next 20 years of his life, do people not say that it's a waste of a potentially outstanding future? Knowing what you're getting into doesn't mean it isn't wasteful.

This guy might tend to disagree with you on the details...for instance, what about soldiers who are on their second or third tours of duty in Iraq? Ipso facto, that could be mean they were drafted. Or the "stopgap" draft, where soliders who've served can be called back into service at any time?

So afraid of the power of the lying right-wing smear machine echo chamber, Obama is shamed into lying about his telling of the truth.
Of COURSE over 3000 troops lives were WASTED!!!
Anyone with half a brain and a little self respect has to admit that this is sadly and absolutely true.

Aw man, the baby is doing terrific. She's starting to crawl and growl and hold on to me while she stands up. She really makes me happy every time I come home from work. Kids are the best.

There is no War on Terror.
Oddly enough, I'll concede this point. You can't wage war against an enemy tactic. That would be like declaring a "War On Aviation" after Pearl Harbor. We all know - nudge nudge wink wink - what enemy we're really talking about. Oddly (or not), nascent Socialists like FDR never were made to explain to the people why internment camps were necessary - it was just understood.
Perhaps this is a euphemistic bow to the press-driven politically-correct lemming herd that is approximately half of the American populace at this point, but in any tactical or strategic sense a "War On Terror" is a non-sequitur. This is a war on Islamism, and we really shouldn't be made to read between the lines to parse that.

We've been through this. Fascism is the belief of religion in the service of the state. Islam is the belief of the state in the service of religion.
