There is plenty of debate over which we should keep and which we should let go. Since Darcy is not negotiating with either one right now isn't it quite possible that the Sabres will be outbid on both guys and be left with nothing? If we have to compete in the open market we're definitely going to overpay to keep one around. I know a lot of Buffalo fans buy into the "loyalty to Buffalo" propaganda but an extra million is an extra million.

Up to Tom G. and some creative financing.

I wouldn't really worry about it now. It's not like the Canadiens are allowed to talk to Briere now anyways. Also, the Sabres' aren't nearly as undesirable or cheap as the Bills, so it's not like they need to overpay.

I think Darcy will start negotiations promptly after the trade deadline.
I dont know what the plans are, but Im sure Darcy knows what each of them wants. One of them will be signed during the season.

The answer is yes, it is completely possible Drury and Briere will not be Buffalo Sabres next year. My advice is, don't worry about it. Just enjoy this year and hope they make it worthwhile.

Darcy is going to have to be really careful in his negotiations with the two of them. Right now he might have a plan to keep one and let the other go but he doesn't want the other guy to know just yet. It would be a major insult to Drury if Darcy made a contract offer to Briere and no offer to him. You don't want your captain to go into the playoffs pissed at the team for making one an offer and not the other.
