With the way Marty and Miller have been playing as of late.. we might have ourselves a little goalie controversy.. Who starts against Calgary? Both played well in their last starts.. Marty led the team to a win in regulation over a team who has essentially owned us this season, while Miller won in a shootout. I say let Marty play against Calgary and give Miller a lil more time to rest.

I say give Marty 1 more start. Miller could use some rest.

Miller...he's the number one....it's his job to lose, and quite frankly he hasn't. Marty lets in more soft goals (usually) than Miller does and Miller definately still gives you the better chance to win. Just my opinion.

No controversy really many great teams that won Cups had the tandems that allowed for the team to overcome any situation in goal.
The Islanders - Billy Smith,Chico Resch
The Oilers - Andy Moog,Grant Fuhr
The Sabres are merely showing that a team is the sum of its collective parts.

There is no controversy, Miller in the unquestioned #1 guy. I'm glad Marty can get into a handful of games though, he doesn't play enough and I think Miller gets burnt out playing as much as he does. In the NHL these days your backup has to be able to play around 30 games if your team is going to be successful. It's very rare you can have a guy that can play 60 or more games in the regular season and still be sharp for the playoffs, those goalies are generational talents like Brodeur, Luongo, Kipprusoff, Fuhr etc. The ability to rotate your #1 and #2 guys keeps both rested for the playoffs when they're needed most. A goalie can steal an entire series for you, goaltending is that important.

If true, I'd start Miller. If not, why not ride the hot 'tender? Marty "I love playing the puck to the opposition" Biron. I was getting so nervous whenever he played the puck, the guy's girlfriend next to me's boobs kept getting rubbed. I apologized.

Why is there a controversy? Because Biron played well for three games? Big deal. This isn't the NFL. Miller's the guy. The goal is to have a capable backup, which is what Buffalo possesses, and that's Biron. Period.

C'mon you gotta sit Marty, he gave up 2 goals to Ottawa.
If you are considering trading Marty his current play is improving his value but Ryan needs to put together 3-4 consistent starts without playing gunshy and jumpy otherwise Darcy is stuck. I'd play Biron against Calgary and let Miller hibernate for the week because it should be his last chance to recharge before the deadline and the final stretch.

At this point I dont think he needs rest. I think the rest period for him is over. He's a professional athlete and he has had plenty of rest since after the all star break. Now it's a matter of a mini slump. The team has struggled and now I think Miller's in a bit of a slump and Lindy knows the only way to get him out of it is to make him play himself out of it. You gotta play Miller.

The Sabres are in a great position, everyone knows that Miller is the guy, but it is so nice to have Marty there if we need him!

Don't forget Carolina
Biron is an "A" goalie, Miller's and "A++". They are close, but it's Miller's team. That said, Miller needs to be able to string more than 2-3 games together. He did that last season and is very capable.
Until he finds his groove give Marty some playing time to keep sharp - and in the playoffs if Miller gets in to funk or injured, we still have a goalie that allows the Sabres to maintain their playing style and challenge for the cup.

So you dont think Miller is an "A" goalie? You said Biron is a "B" goalie because he didnt take us anywhere.
But anyways, I dont think Miller takes any of the teams Biron was the #1 for anywhere either. In fact, Miller wasnt very good when he got his chances with those teams.

I say play Biron a bit more, and showcase him to teams who may want to trade for him.
I dont care who's in there...as long as we win

Thats what I think... Play Marty.. get his value even higher and then trade him.. I mean hes gonna walk at the end of the year.. may as well get something for him.. Miller proved last year he could handle the pressure of the playoffs..

Lock up Marty with a 5 year deal. As much as he says during the offseason how he'd like to be a #1, he is not a disruption, not cancerous, and is a better backup than most teams in the league have. As much as I like Miller and agree he's "the man".....he's never made it through the grind of a full season. With his skinny stature, he may be injury/fatigue prone and a nice insurance policy behind him isn't a bad idea.

Why would you lock up Marty to a five-year deal? That makes no sense. First of all, that would be a longer contract than Miller's. Secondly, Marty wouldn't even sign it. He wants to be a starter, and rightfully so, but it can't happen here.

I honestly think Marty is underrated and Miller is overrated by a lot of our fans.
That said Miller is the starter as he is better than Marty generally... but not by that much IMO.
I really wouldnt mind if we rotated them like Minnesota used to do with Roloson and Fernandez. I think Miller doesnt have great endurance due to his lean frame so fewer games would keep him fresh and keep his production up (and injuries down) and I think Marty's a solid starter who doesnt hurt you if he has to play a lot of games.
