A thought on shedding some salary for next season while maintaining the talent level.
To Kings:
Biron, Kotalik
To Sabres:
Brown, Labarbera, 2nd in 08'
With Labarbera in the minors putting up stallar numbers, the LAK can not recall him as they will loose him on re-entry waivers. In exchange LAK gets a stable #1 goalie.
Labarbera's salary is less than Biron's and Brown's is less than Kotalik's. There is still upside to Brown as well and I think his style of play suits the Sabres.

Has anyone noticed that Ales is our Shootout ace in the hole?

Yes, which makes it difficult to trade him, even though he loafs out on the ice a lot.

Shootout ace's are not needed in the playoffs.

One thing you can give Kotalik, he definitely turned it up in the playoffs last year. Hitting, skating, backchecking, and going into the corners. If he isn't going to contribute scoring wise, he proved last year that he can be counted on to at least play hard when it comes down to it. Which is my single biggest worry about this years team. Is Vanek going to turn it up? Or Novotny? Spacek, Kalinin, and Paille?

Why would the Kings want Kotalik or Biron?
Maybe because they can't score goals or keep them out!

The Kings would definetely want Biron. Dan Cloutier's career is pretty much over, and all the other goaltenders on their roster, (Garon, ***iyama, Labarbera, Brust) are not going to get the job done in the long run. They are a bunch of serviceable backups. The Kings are going for a youth movement, they would take both Marty and Ales.

They are 12 games below .500, last in the western conference. If anybody invests in a UFA goalie i think it would probably be a team looking for a run at the cup.

Kotalik while others have been fading into mediocrity has tried to elevate his game.He is hitting and digging and that shot is indescribably delicious. He also is not expensive and that means a lot in this salary cap world.I think if you look beyond the warts you can see a pretty damn good player. And he is golden in them shootouts!

The Kings would like to get Biron since Garon hits UFA this summer too. Garon is a solid starter, but Biron is just better, they would likely try to secure him to a long term deal before pulling the trigger on a trade. Dustin Brown is awesome but we don't really need a forward as badly as we need another defenseman. I want Cammalleri, but they'll never let him go now. Maybe we can try to get something like this from them:
To LA: Biron, Kotalik, and a pick
To Buffalo: Lubomir Visnovski and Dustin Brown
Oh, then swing a deal for a veteran backup with a small salary: Belfour, Legace, etc. Then we sign a younger backup in the offseason.

This makes most sense excellent pigpen.
Why would they even entertain the trade proposed here.

If Kotalik isnt one timing shots into the net on the power play then he is useless to us.
Although, he is pretty physical in the playoffs and is one of our biggest players.

Why in the world would they not want Biron? He is a starter on any other team.

If they want him they can sign him in 3 months without having to give anything up.

well, it's possible. But for most players, hitting UFA at the prime of their careers is a once in a lifetime oportunity. It's not just the money, it's the opportunity to choose where you play; the city, the coach, and the situation. The only way the Kings would give up anything for Marty now would be if a long term deal was worked out before hand. The only way that would happen is if Marty really wanted to play in LA, and the offer was good enough to make him bypass his once in a lifetime UFA opportunity. In all reality, this hardly ever happens. I can't remember the last time it has. If Biron is traded, it will be to a team headed to the playoffs looking for a short term upgrade in goal. Otherwise, he'll hit the open market in 3 months and any team looking at Biron as a long term solution will make a bid without having to give up anything in return.
