One of the Greatest:

"Phil Housley gave Sabres fans many reasons to cheer in his eight years with the organization," said Bob Swados, Chairman of the Buffalo Sabres Hall of Fame. "He left us with many great memories, and we are thrilled to make him the newest member of the Hall of Fame."

Too bad he bounced around the league after the trade to Lose-apeg.
Woulda been great to see him wrap it up in Buffalo.

I hope the Sabres do it up right this kid was a star and he didn't exactly go out well here.He got the shaft from many fans but he was a great player who was expected to do things he wasn't made up for.Truly offensive genius!

I think Housley was one of the better players at the time for the Sabres, and he really didn't go out ot well. But he definstely deserves the honor

I would but they are installing him into The Sabres Hall Of Fame.He is a Hall Of famer thats all the validation I need.

(From Wikpedia)

Housley is the top scoring U.S.-born player, with 1,232 points (338-894).

He is considered one of the best American defenseman ever, alongside fellow Americans Chris Chelios and Brian Leetch. However, Housley never won the Norris Trophy as the NHL's Top Defenseman, thanks in large part to playing in the same era and reaching his peak years at the same time as the likes of Ray Bourque, Paul Coffey, Chris Chelios and Brian Leetch (the four combined to win every Norris Trophy between 1985 and 1997), and that he spent considerable time during his career playing forward.

Yet we have Tim Horton in the rafters. He played one year here in Buffalo. I understand the tragedy, but he was a true Maple Leaf and not a Sabre.

i agree, as tragic as it was he should not be in the rafters.

it would be like Jordan being in the wizards rafters.

Again its what you did while you were here that matters most and in eight seasons brother Phil layed it on the line for Buffalo and grew up while he was at it.If he was playing now in the so called new NHL chances are good he might have one day lead the league in scoring like Bobby Orr once did w/o some bruto trying to break an ankle cause they couldn't skate with the man.

We know their not raising the banner. We were talking about whether or not there should be a banner with his name on it.

And what's with the caps at the beg. of every word?

hell no there shouldnt be a banner with his name on it. like everyones sayin, he only played for buffalo for one year. Tim Horton is a different story. It was a real tradgedy. Even tho he was only on the team for 1 year, he made a big difference. O, and he makes good doughnuts. :)

Get your facts straight..........Housley played for 8 years here. Do you read our posts? Housley was a top d-man in the entire NHL.

im talking about horton. he only played for one year. and he made a big difference thats why his number is in the rafters.its also a dedication to his memory. Housley was good, no doubt about it. but i still dont think that he needs a banner.

Could you tell me this "big difference" he made. I wasn't even born yet when he played so I don't really know. His 23 pts in a Buffalo uniform makes me question why he has a banner in the first place. If it is only a dedication to his memory, it still shouldn't be up there. By all means put his jersey in the lobby of the arena to get some recognition. I understand it was a tragedy, but he was not a true Sabre.

I agree with Shine that neither Horton nor Housley deserve to be in the rafters.

Well regardless of what anyone says, Housely was one of the greatest world class offensive defensemen of his time. I'll be proudly cheering him on in my upper deck seat in a section of crazy UB students tonight. Section 301.
