This is something i have heard from a couple of people, wondering if anybody else has heard
Sabres would give up Briere and Ducks would give up Pronger, with maybe a couple picks or prospects thrown in.

Thats a hard one. Our offense hasnt been doing great, but we lack that big defensemen. Hmm.

no thanks, Briere is a hell of a leader, spark, scorer, "assister" who is 29 yrs old, Pronger...while a solid D-man, he is also 33 yrs old! I know we have Teppo, but nobody expected us to have him around for more than the one season. I for one would be against this trade! Keep the team together! What about trading Kotalik (or some1 similiar, altho i dont really wanna trade) and one of our prospects, maybe Enroth the goalie, for a D-man!

Is Pronger going to be a UFA next season?

I think he signed a multi year deal when he first got dealt to edmonton.

Gotta keep him, he is a scoring powerhouse. For Pronger??? NO WAY, won't he be retiring soon anyway.

Pronger's my boy. I'd probably do it, even though it sounds extremely false.

I really doubt this would happen
Im not sure whats Pronger cap number is but i think its around 6.5 so straight up the deal wouldnt work.
Also I dont know how healthy Pronger is.
the Ducks are also better off with Pronger then with out.
Danny is a big deal here and I dont think we will deal him but i do think he will leave us in the off season.
Witht hat all being said I would pull the trigger on this deal. Pronger has a good 3 to 4 years left in him maybe even 5 or 6.

If so, probably the best D man in the NHL going to the Sabres for someone whos going to be a UFA at the end of the season? I wouldnt think twice. The Sabres are plenty deep enough on offense to win the cup, but their D could be improved for sure.

lol, it would be great for the sabres.
There is no way it happens, burke would get fired.

Briere is a major reason why the sabres are doing well. Why trade away your heart and chemistry for Pronger? That won't fix things. The Sabres biggest problem is the mistakes they are making that they diidn't make when the season started. Whiffing on shots, passing it to the other team and stuff like that. They need to snap out of this slump. I went to the gamei n Atlanta tonight. Folks from Buffalo were crawling all over Phillips Arena. It was great to see.

More random trade BS.
Nobody in the know has even hinted at this one.
Dead subject, just like Forsberg.

well no offense boys but I think too many of you are going the wrong way on this one. Danny Briere is simply a monster when it comes to leading this team, scoring key goals, keeping this team energized. I also think that it is a lack of scorers(other than Briere) that we have right now, that has lead to our recent stumbling. Also, our defensive core is as solid as we've had in a long time. I don't think that Pronger would really help as much as you guys think. As we gear up for the playoffs, I think we definately need a player like Briere around, and if we lose him in the off season it would be unfortunate but a better scenario than him being traded now!

Wow!!! Chris Pronger in Buffalo?? My favorite non-Sabre for Briere? That's a tough one. Very tough.

this is the most retarded trade rumor i have ever heard....trades typically happen between a team gunning for the playoffs and a team that has no chance....first off, why would anaheim trade pronger, for a player who can become an UFA after this year? second why the hell would we trade briere, especially for an aging defenseman? this makes absolutely no sense, mostly because both teams are the top in the league and will definately make the playoffs and have a good chance of meeting in the cup (knock on wood). no one in their right mind would make a deal like this. like i said, trades TYPICALLY happen between teams making a run for the playoffs (or teams in it already) and teams that will NOT make it (or teams imploding like boston and philly).

Maybe because they need offense and we need defense. I agree it's far-fetched, but I'm holding out hope nonetheless. And Pronger isn't "aging." He's 32, which really isn't that old.

what's more troubling is that briere will eb teh flyers top priority if the sabres dont' resign him. I dont' want to have to hate him forever

these teams are in the top 5 in the league and will be when the season is over....how can t hey need offense and we need defense if we are in the top 5? by need i mean need, not would be nice to have more firepower. philly needs offense and defense...thats need...ducks and sabres dont need anything....would be nice to have something, but need is not necessary.

also, ducks are averaging 3.30 goals per game...sabres average 3.60 goals per game....that hardly sounds like anaheim needs offensive help.....sabres goals against per game is 2.86 and ducks is 2.46....these teams are almost identical.....i dont think we need that much help at defense....

Good info. I guess neither team "needs" a specific player. If Burke called me, though, offering Pronger for, say, Briere and Kalinin, I'd be all over it.

I can't see Darcey trading Danny even though I think that he does not sign him for next year, I think that make their run at the cup this year while they still have Danny and Drury and look to add a piece or two to make that run, but if they are going to win a cup, this seems like the best year to make that happen.

I'd definitely make that trade, especially if Connolly comes back anywhere near the form he showed in last year's playoffs.

wont happen as said because of the cap numbers i heard pronger is closer to 7 mil +.. i would love to ship the under achieving briere outta here for a top3 defenseman.. isn't trading these soon to be UFA's for more talent the reason we dont 'mortgage our future' ? we have talent in roc. we should make room for 1 or 2 players this is the way to do it

No disrespect to Danny Briere, whom Sabres fans love, but Chris Pronger is nearly the cream of the crop as a D-man. Only Lidstrom and Niedermayer are better. If the Sabres can get him, they have to. The guy is unbelievable. Briere's very good, Pronger's great.

thats the most ridiculous rumor ever.
why would we give up our highest scorer to a team that we might meet in the Stanley Cup finals?
why would they give up their highest scoring defenseman to a team that they might meet in the Stanley Cup finals?

looks like my "people" were right.
Buffalo's Daniel Briere and Chris Drury are both unrestricted free agents at season's end and it might be conceivable that the Sabres deal one at the deadline to get something back. It is thought that the Sabres will not be able to afford both, so perhaps general manager Darcy Regier will bite the bullet and try and get something solid in return. There is a rumor floating around concerning Briere, the Anaheim Ducks and defenseman Chris Pronger. Stay tuned...
Hey, i think i'm better than Eklund

who's your people? no offense, but you're 17...you can't have that many reliable people yet...With these guys' salaries, this makes the deal impossible! No one in their right mind would make this deal anyways....a forward like briere is more valuable to a team than a guy like pronger...who will prob retire in about 2-3 years anyways.

Drury and Briere need to be signed to long term contracts as of yesterday.
Give them the option to retire as Sabres.

That's a LOOOOONNNNGGGGG option. Briere is 4 scores and 7 years from retiring, Drury has at least a score.

Briere in no way is an under acheiver. In the words of Robitaille, if we are willing to pay Pronger around 7MMMillion a year, then why wouldn't we pay less to keep a fan favorite and our best scorer?? It would be nice to get something while we can for either Briere or Truuuuly, we also NEED to win a Cup while I'm alive, so I would be against such a trade. We still have Sekera, Funk, and Card waiting around in Rochester who are all pretty much capable. Move KALININ for anything immediately, even for a roll of toilet paper to save money for the arena. Haa.
Carl J. Ironsides
February 8th, 2007, 1:45:25 PM
Sekera, Card and Funk aren't Chris Pronger. Briere's awesome, but he isn't Pronger either. Maybe it's just my blind fandom of Pronger saying all this, but I'd celebrate if that deal happened.

All I'm saying is we play a team oriented game. We don't have superstars. We don't need superstars. Keep winning with the team concept. Why give a sixth of the cap to one guy who will next year be 33 and most likely won't even want to be here after this year? Sign Danny, soon.
