Mike Huckabee seemed somewhat cool on the Daily Show but he was a little less imressive on MTP yesterday.

He's still a little too Baptist Minister for my taste.

Cripes, you'd think ANYONE is "a little too Baptist Minister" unless they had "666" stamped across their forehead and spoke backwards English.

I've long said Wes Clark was a Democrat I'd support ... it's there in the old posts.

And you may recall that I said Clark was going to be hurt politically because he was a Catholic convert.

McCain would NEVER get my vote. In contrast to his "Straight Talk Express" days, these days he's talking out of both sides of his mouth and half the time is for something that he's now against.

Same with Rudy. Considering the past scruples of Giuliani(political and personal),do you honestly think those who run the Republican party would even LET him get a whiff of the nod?

Hagel, though, does show promise. He's willing to go against his party when needed, but is rock-solid right for the most part.

Brownback and Tancredo are basically one note Sam and one note Tom. Enough said.

Ron Paul,as appealing as he is to some, has no prayer. Basically because he's cursed with what afflicts libertarianism: long-windedness. For all their talk about wanting to know a candidate's positions,if you can't get right to the point, you've lost John Q. Voter.

Dems are all over the map. I can't support Obama yet....if the Dems lose in '08 and he's still around in 2012,then I might support him. Edwards has some decent ideas and, next to Obama,is about as good a public speaker as you can get. Hillary? Sorry, but no. And it has nothing to do with her jamming upstate NY. With Kucinich, when you get your ass kicked on a regular basis by an ALTERNATIVE WEEKLY PAPER,that about sums up all you need to know about him. Biden? Nope.

I don't agree with much of what they stand for but the reasons I like them are two: I have heard them both in person, they are impressive speakers; and, they are so far away from every having a chance to win it free's them up from having to be concerned with what most people think about their opinions.

They tell you what they really think.

If you want a Republican version, I could add that guy from Colorado who just announced. Forgot his name right now.

I'll tell you this, I only like the guys I list BECAUSE they have no chance. If they pulled ahead in the polls, I would jump ship in a second. We cannot have earnest, true-believers in power. That is what Bush is, a non-political politician, and look where that has got us.

No more Bush's. No more Clinton's. No more Kennedy's. This idea of families getting this much power in American politics has to stop. The representation by "typical" people keeps getting more and more of an ideal and less of what is happening.

Which I why I threw his name out there, Meat. I think the General could become a factor in the 2008 election.

Here's my thought: Thanks to the advent of 24/7 news channels, there is a constant need to fill airtime. When there isn't real news to report, rather than falling on the old print standby of feature stories, the TV news channels dip into speculation and punditry [much cheaper to produce than features].

The problem is that it is January 2007 and already we are getting swamped with speculation and punditry about primaries that are a year away. And the focus is your typical horse-race focus on the front-runners, i.e., Hillary Clinton and Barrack Obama.

Your average viewer can only take so much exposure before they get sick of the horse race and sick of the front-runners. It is that point at which they will gladly welcome some new face that hasn't been on their screen for the past 12 months.

Enter Wesley Clark.

Clerk's big gaffe in 2004 was getting in the race too late to derail Kerry.

For the Repubs:

1. Bucanhan has run spitloads of times, and we all know the game on him. No can do.
2. Keyes will probably appeal only to the religious right. Problem is,this group's already served by Sam Brownback, and you can only split the American Taliban vote so many ways.
3. Paul might be a decent choice on the list. I'd add Chuck Hagel to it,as well.

On the Dems side:

1. Sebelius would certainly bring a new dimension to the matter, considering she's governor of a heavily Republican state.
2. Kuchnich? See my comments above.
3. I'd add my approval of getting Clark in the race.

Nice list Meathead...I'm going to use your list in your order with my grades and comments.

F - McCain - his kissing Bush's ass makes him the last guy on earth I would vote for
A - Clinton - The guys in DC may not be ready for a tough bitch...but would make a great president.
F - Hagel - Not a serious candidate
F - Paul - you've got to be kidding...if he gets 1% of the vote I would be surprised...this guy speaks for the looney wing of the GOP.
F - Kucinich - Democratic fruitcake...this guy speaks for the looney wing of the Dems.
B - Giuliani - About the only Republican I could vote for because of his social policy attitudes...will probably never get the GOP nomination because of his social policy attitudes.
D - Biden - Maybe if he stops trying to hide his bald head with that goofy swooosh of hair...
A+ - Obama - This guy has got "it"...the "vision thing"...political experience is overhyped...I want a guy who has got the intelligence and vision to make a good leader. Everything I have read and heard this guy say tells me he has got both.
C - Edwards - too good looking...although his "two Americas" rhetoric is on the right track...I don't think he can ever get the nomination.

C - Richardson - This guy has got loads of experience but not much charisma.
F - Romney - What a jerk
F - Huckabee - can never win with such a stupid name.
