Oh, I know there is a military aspect of what we are doing there.

I just don't think we are really equipped to being doing it well.

So far so good though.That is because canadian soldiers are doing it, anybody else would not have the same effect. The world would be a better place if we had more resourses to send out more canadians to these spots. The thing that has me worried is that a american general is now taking over and the americans have no idea what ''to win the hearts and minds'' means. Now there want to just go in and burn the poppy fields down with no plans on what to do after. We start winning the hearts and minds and in come the americans and destroy the good rapport we have with these people, by blowing everything up. They are working on a plan for the pharmacuticals compamies to buy it up ,since there is a shortage of the stuff for pain killers .But I can see that deal not going thru becasue it would work. And there are equip very well for once, but we need more boots on the ground.

I gotta agree with Ticat on this. The US military has never been really any good at winning the hearts and minds.

Search and destroy worked real well? Sure did. Kudos to Canada and it's brave boys for what they are doing over there.

Don't confuse Afghanistan with Iraq. The former is a war on terror. These Taliban are not nice people. You can't negotiate with them one iota.

I'm just saying that you lack the perspective (as a non-parent) to be saying that committing other people's kids to go die in a foreign land is a good idea. It's got nothing to do with the troops that are deployed, rather with the decision to deploy them.

They can do a lot more for our country by keeping them here to protect Canada. Afghanistan has absolutely no strategic importance to Canada or to your average Canadian.

It is helping out people doug and your strategy of waiting till the problem arrives here is stupid. You lefties are alway talking the good talk but when it come times to do something about it ,you disappear. Now think of this,which I doubt if it ever crossed your mind. Pakistan is full of taliban and afghanistan was, now is they get control of afghanistan again and get together with their pakistan brothers and have a coup in pakistan,then there you have a taliban goverment with nuclear weapons. Now I know you will just laugh at this becasue we all know that you believe your brother shiv that it is just bushco and there is no danger out there. But then you guys scream that we are just peacekeeper and should just help out countries that need peace keepers .Well iraq is in need of peace keeper so really the left logic would be move out of afghanistan and into iraq.
