See the suggestions forum. I think there is a way to end all this worthless fighting. All we have to do is abolish the ToS.

Sure. I'll take whatever help I can get. I think this proposal has a chance to end all the fighting over personal attacks. If they're OK and within the rules, people who don't like them will just leave and all this terrible strife and conflict can go away.

True, but on an anonymous message board, it's not the poster that lawyers for a newspaper would come after for copyright infringement ...it would be the board and board ownership.

That's why you keep around a couple of admins who just go in and delete anything against the LAW. Choose the law of the state in which the server abides. NY in this case.

Well, that would fall on the site management, of which I am not a part. But the Range could also adopt a "pay as you go" policy where copyrights are concerned. A poster who breaks that law has to pay for the lawyer. We'd have to have everyone's credit card or PayPal info...no biggy.
Or just do one rule, then. No copyrighted material....

New posters might get beat up for an "orientation period" when they post outside the social norms that are sure to develop, but that can be chawked up to being a learning experience.

Another advantage of abolishing the ToS is that it would un-handicap people like me.
See, I did twenty years in the military. I'm used to rules and following them. So when I break the ToS, I feel REALLY bad about it. It makes me nearly incapable of doing so sometimes. So I can't defend myself as well as I should when people who are exempt from the ToS anyway come after me.
Without a ToS to worry over, I'd be free to defend myself in whatever way I see fit.

Can't agree here with abolishing the TOS. The problem here, and specifically in the PRS is it is natural human behavior for us not to be thought of as impediments to the free flow of speech. You want to maximize that. Unfortunately some players will use that concept as a carte blanch to say whatever the hell they want and then scream censorship at the top of their lungs and make a huge stink when it happens. Make it such a headache that you don't even want to bother. Then the heat starts to turn up. And those that would normally be lower key, being exposed to that level of insanity over time, get absorbed into it. Now it's like pouring gas on a fire.
No, I disagree Chris. Don't abolish the TOS. I liked MPW's suggestion a while ago. Tighten it up. Lower the temperature, not raise it. And that goes for everyone. newbies, staff, long timers, whatever. You are seeing it right here with the frustration level. The first blowup, for those that don't know, occurred because I started a strict TOS thread in the PRS. For that I was acussed of abusing my authority. Didn't matter that I PMed every mod, liberal, conservative and other, asking them to remove all junk attacks that occurred. A few players here didn't like that idea and took it upon themselves to go in and trash the thread. I started deleting the attacks. I told them to stop. They didn't. I told them again. They didn't. I suspended one for a LOUSY two hours and Shiva went nuts.
So the TOS needs to be enforced more. That is my opinion. And I am no better than anyone for being lax in it's enforcement. Hell, I've gotten caught up in the sewer too. I think that we all need to do a control-alt-delete here, step back, and agree across the board that the TOS should be enforced for all. Yes, Chris. It will be enforced equally. The staff here is no different than any other staff. We have different perceptions and different views. It's one of the reasons that I always clammor for a liberal mod when an opening in the PRS is available. Different views. That's the check and balance against our being merely human. Trust me guys. Even with the NWF thing it wasn't a dozen guys rubber stamping anything. There was one hell of a lively discussion on even that one. When something like that happens the evidence is piled up and tossed on the table. I am going to unilaterally desist from this nonsense. Stricter enforcement of the TOS. And if you have an issue with it then PM a few mods if you think you are wronged. These guys are not at all afraid to get in each other's faces if you have a good case.

So you think, huh? MOST members here I have strong political disagreements with. Never had a problem with Spiked before the jew barrage started. Always did have a problem with you though. You pretty much don't add anything but insults to this board. Really. Never had a problem with Shiva either until he decided to announce to the world that he was the boss of the Range. Don't have an issue with Aqua, ckg, Ru, decon, notacon, and scores of other people here that I strongly disagree with. Ask them if I have bullied them. No. Look at the characters involved. Look at the absolute hate in their message toward fellow posters. If they are to the left then so be it. I can't help that. This place is predominantly left anyways. Now, which of my so-called "allies" should get banned Doug? And on what basis? Show me a poster that tells another poster that his mother ****s him with a strap-on. Hell, I was going to suspend you. I actually worked through Shiva to prevent that. I went the extra mile not to. If I truly had a vendetta that would have been easily the most justifiable suspension I could ever have made. Really.

Really. You can ban me for two weeks for some of the shit I've said. I'll take it like a man and not go whining about on that other board. That's one of the amusing things about this, Chimp banned from other board, comes here and whines about it. Chimp banned here, does the same.
Another thing I find amusing is when Shiva announces his displeasure, the Canadian cartel along with some American sympathizers jump on the bandwagon to rage against the machine. I don't think Chimp should have been suspended, but that's not my decision to make.
The point is, Pete and his so called right wing cabal get pilloried by the cartel for voicing their opinion and taking it to the powers that be for an approval for action, while the cartel raises their fist in the air and cries about the inhumanity and unfairness of it all. When the cartel does it by berating a person of a different political persuasion and the person gets fed up, finally leaves, they pat themselves on the back for a job well done. "We showed that scum sucking right wing moron a thing or too".
The cartel can't have it both ways. Attacking the other side for cronyism and dirty tricks while they do the same things themselves.
Chimp will be back in two weeks, which is not along time and I'm sure we'll get to see 4 or 5 threads proclaiming his victimhood. Look at it this way, he's a martyr for the cause.

Moonie, I was right in there with my own thread about changing tactics early Saturday morning when I saw what went down late Friday night. It was funny that two of the stunned bunnys didn't even recognize that it was about them. At that time I haven't talked to Shiva...geez, I can't remember the last time we've PM'd or emailed or called.
Did it ever occur to you that people with reasonable intelligence can see right through the sleazy moves that the 'scum sucking right wing moron's (your words, not mine) tried to pull this weekend ? And that a person with reasonable intelligence could come to those conclusions in about three seconds, on their own ?

Count me as one that disagrees TOTALLY with abolishing TOS. That would probaly have me leaving the site since every thread would break down into the same name calling bullshit.
That is like saying that laws against murder should be repealed because some members of our society choose to ignore them and kill other people. There is a word for that....Anarchy.
I have already stated (in a PM to Pete some time ago) that I thought the standards should be tightened. Certainly the judgment of moderators would be questioned...that is why there are moderators. There seems to be enough of them with various viewpoints...so that would prodcue the balance that is required.
Taking away all the rules is just plain wrong and not a viable solution.
If any poster does not like the rules...or how they are administered...they have the simple choice to stay away.
