Iran installing 3,000 centrifuges
Iranian legislator makes announcement
TEHRAN, Iran — Iran is currently installing 3,000 centrifuges, a top legislator said Saturday in an announcement underlining the country will continue to develop its nuclear program despite UN sanctions.
Legislator Alaeddin Boroujerdi said the installation underway at an Iranian uranium-enrichment plant “stabilizes Iran’s capability in the field of nuclear technology,” Iran’s IRNA news agency reported.
Three inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency who arrived in Iran on Saturday are scheduled to visit the uranium-enrichment plant in Natanz, Iranian television reported.
Iran last week barred 38 inspectors from the United Nations nuclear watchdog because they come from countries that voted for sanctions on Iran....
...Iran’s announcement appears to be its latest gesture of defiance. It faces the prospect of additional United Nations sanctions unless it stops uranium-enrichment by the end of a 60-day period that ends next month.

Why are we going to attack them when they are doing what they allowed to do by the Treaty we drew up and they signed?

I think all this Iranian enrichment which has been speculated to be 10 years away from weapons grade is a front to cover the asses of Russia that sold nukes to Iran already.

What's the difference between that and the USA giving Israel nukes many years ago?

There are better ways to cover tracks and Iran DOES have the uranium, the knowledge, and the infrastructure to do it all on their own. It strains credulity and is slightly insulting to their known abilities to write them off as having been given the ability by others.

It could be.
However, all the major arms dealing countries -- France, Russia, China and the USA -- do the same kind of crap.
There is very little long-term thinking that a country you supply today may be your enemy in 10 years.
Grab the cash today, let someone else worry about the consequences tomorrow.

No I was stating my belief... We want Nuclear power... We have the right to enrich... ( not arguing that) then the so called experts say that even if this is so... 10 years til weaponry. I say they have it already and it is to cover thier weapons supplier.

If so, then doesn't it show a sign that Iran for all of its talk is still rational since it has NOT used its nukes even though the country it hates the most in the world has invaded a country on two of its borders?
They're NOT stupid.

It could be. Russia has had difficulty keeping track of their weapons and they were desperate for money.
I don't see it though. Iran is building nuclear power plants. In ten years, they will then "make" a nuke so they can violate the agreement of the NNPT...they can do that for real in ten years.
I believe that they really do want to develop alternative power sources because they realize oil is running out and they want to invest their country with infrastructure while they can. They may ALSO build a nuke but, hey, their neighbor has one illegally, and the US has 200,000 troops in the countries on their eastern AND western borders. I'd be skittish too after Bush declared them in the "axis of evil".

We cannot prevent other countries from developing this technology. We cannot. The info. needed to do these things is everywhere. The hardest thing to get is the uranium and other countries have that in their own lands.
Einstein knew this and refused to help build the bomb because he knew no matter how hard we hold down the lid, Pandora's box when opened will spread to friends and enemies alike.
We managed, through the Cold War, to restrict access and technology dissemination, but that is over. The game is over. There is a new game being played and the Old US Cold Warriors (Bush, Cheney, Rice) don't get it. There are different rules now.

Doesn't Canada have the most uranium in the world?
Yet, we were smart enough NOT to build a nuke.
Just nuclear power.

I don't understand your point.
Canada is smart enough to not build a nuke, just use nuclear power. And when Iran says it is smart enough to not build a nuke, they just want nuclear power, you say, "hell no, they HAVE nukes they bought from Russia and this is a coverup."
Where are you going with this?

Oh, I don't know if they have nukes, but I think they're within their rights to either have nuclear weapons or nuclear power.
Who is the USA to say Iran can't have nukes, but Israel can?
Once they were introduced into the Middle East, every country has the right to acquire them to protect themselves.

The old key was, to get people to sign the NNPT, that they could use the technology for peaceful purposes...reactors...but the only countries with refinement technology were the superpowers and they refused to share.
The result was that on paper people had a right to reactors but they could not build them. No nukes, no reactors.
The treaty is old, and we ignored changing realities. People in other countries are now capable of doing the things we use to, in practice, be able to prevent them from doing.
We are pissed.
Regarding Israel, they do not have the right. They have never claimed to have them. They remain silent to keep people guessing. The opinion is that they bought them off S. Africa when S. Africa had the technology.

I've heard the South African rumour as well, but I believe Israel had nukes well before South Africa had the technology to create them.
I just have difficulty with one country dictating what another country can or can NOT do when the dictating country has already done what says the other country can NOT do.

The known fact about S. Africa and Israel is that a nuclear explosion was seen via a US satellite in the 1970's in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa. When the US zoomed in to the area, they caught an Israeli and S.African ship steaming away at high speed from the blast zone.
The conclusion was the one of them must have had the technology and the other might have aided or was the customer.
S. Africa has since announced that during apartheid they had developed weapons and since had dismantled them.
Israel has remained silent on the incident. Many assume they have them, but no one knows for sure.

Yup, I recall that.
If Canada decided that for its own need to be preceived as being more independant from American foreign policy, it will also develop a nuclear weapon quickly, would you object?

I don't object to much of what happens in other countries. It is really none of my business what happens until it spills over into the international community. I am a Libertarian when it comes to International Relations too.

As for this one.... Uh oh.... "centrifuge" has been inserted into the public's mind as a meme meaning "nuclear weapons". Seems to me this is just another link in the chain leading to military action against Iran.
I don't need to say how abhorrent I think THAT is, do I?
