View Full Version : Worst inter-division record for a division winner?

I'm not panicking or anything, but at 8-7-1 inside the division, Vancouver is the only division leader that has a worse record inside its division (9-9-1). My question is: what is the worst inter-division record for a division winner, and will the Sabres match it?

It shows you that the inter-division rivals good or bad teams find a way to compete no matter what record they have. AKA Toronto Game. Its good for the game and I feel these close and tough faught games in the division do make them better when it comes to playoff time. Its a perfect way to keep them in playoff mode. On the way to the Stanley Cup!!!

Agreed. We all get frustrated when the boys lose to the Leafs, Sens, and Habs. At the same time, I remember that when we enjoyed that 10-0-0 start, I was worried about how they would deal with adversity. Well, struggles with divisional rivals are a great way to keep the team focused. We as a board are well known for whining (;))about a 30-win team, but this "blemish" along with the special teams snafus are good to prevent complacency come playoff time.

I'm not whining about this. If the Sabres were to go 2-30 in the division, and still won the conference somehow, I wouldn't care (ok, maybe I would be still alarmed). I was just pointing out how "interesting" it was that the Sabres have one of the best records in the league with one of the worst division records in the league comparatively speaking.

What is it about teams like Ottawa and Toronto that gets to us? What do the teams that beat us have in common?

Never meant to imply that you were whining. I actually agree with you that to struggle against division rivals is serious. I was just afraid that a valid point like the one you brought up would lead to some of the irrational hand wringing I've noticed once in a while. Sorry for the misunderstanding!

What type of record do you expect when your 0-4 vs one of the teams?
You see 8-7-1, I see 8-3-1 vs everyone that isnt Ottawa.
Ottawa scares the crap out of me. The Comrie trade was very Darcy Regier like.

i know... what a bunch of punks!
the season will be full of ups and downs... im not seeing too many downs in comparison right now. we are without some key players and our intensity is lacking.
intensity is very difficult to carry over a significant amount of time in this league, especially. not too mention how well we've handled it for a very large portion of this young, young season.
piece.
