Ok, I know this is way premature to do. However, I know for a fact that I am not the only one on here who has thought about the Sabres winning it.
NHL.com defines the winner of the trophy as the team "who has the best RECORD in the league at the conclusion of the regular season."
Now, I have seen some debate on this on another board. Does this mean the best record or most points at the end of the regular season? A team can have the best record...but not lead the league in points.
Thoughts Range?

I believe that the "best record" would be defined as having the most points in the league. If you think about it, the points system is there to delineate which teams have achieved more than the competition, based on wins and ties so it is in fact a representation of the team's record. I would have to think that the NHL would stick to the points-based winner since it uses the points to decide playoff teams, home-ice advantage and such.

I'm not quite sure what else would constitute a better record other than having more points?
I suppose a team could end up with less wins, less losses, and more OT losses and end up with more points. But considering the points system, you'd have to give it to the team with more points, regardless.

It's most points, with tiebreaker being most wins.

If the Sabres don't get some personnel that can handle the Senators and Leafs, that's all they will be in linne to win. It's the Stanley Cup that we want.
