Ad Hominem.
An ad hominem fallacy consists of asserting that someone's argument is wrong and/or he is wrong to argue at all purely because of something discreditable/not-authoritative about the person or those persons cited by him rather than addressing the soundness of the argument itself. The implication is that the person's argument and/or ability to argue correctly lacks authority. Merely insulting another person in the middle of otherwise rational discourse does not necessarily constitute an ad hominem fallacy. It must be clear that the purpose of the characterization is to discredit the person offering the argument, and, specifically, to invite others to discount his arguments. In the past, the term ad hominem was sometimes used more literally, to describe an argument that was based on an individual, or to describe any personal attack. However, this is not how the meaning of the term is typically introduced in modern logic and rhetoric textbooks, and logicians and rhetoricians are in agreement that this use is incorrect.

Ad hominem is not a fallacy, genius. It is a tactic.
Aristotle notes that you attack the argument and not the man. Then later, in the same text, while cycling through erroneous thinking of his contemporaries, he gets to a man who makes a whole host of completely indefensible arguments and it is here that Aristotle ignores the author's arguments all together and discusses the silly dress and demeanor of the person in question...
The lesson of the paragraph is that some people, and by extension their arguments, are so unsupportable that you would demean yourself by taking them seriously at all. Ad Hominem is a way to discount a person's argument while not giving it the time of day.
If we discussed the formation of the moon, which is all theory since none of us were around, and someone chimed in with the old theory that it was made of cheese, we would not justify that with a response. Same difference here.

I think the acid rain stopped killing the fish in New England because a Republican and Democratic House, Senate, and Executive all agreed that we should begin altering the crap we let escape into the environment and help to save our country.
Did I miss something or was it not Ford AND Carter along with Republican and Democrat controlled chambers of the legislative branch who helped prevent the pollution of unregulated businesses that resulted in rivers catching fire?

There was a researcher from Colorado who tried to explain it this way:
First, global warming is a pattern of events that MOST researchers subscribe to.
Second, there are three distinct weather patterns that we are dealing with in the US.
-One, El Nino: the heating of Pacific water. This usually affects weather in the midwest...so when you hear people repeating what they don't know and understand about El Nino on the east coast, you can automatically come to the conclusion that they are uninformed and, thereby, tune them out.
-Two, the North Atlantic Ossillation. This is a heating and a cooling of the atmosphere of the air along the east coast, not the water temperature of the Atlantic.
-Three Arctic warming: This is the aspect of global warming which is the one that can be seen most evidently. The pollution in the air, IT IS HYPOTHESIZED, is building up heat at the poles and is helping to melt the caps. This is fact; that the caps are melting. What this does is effect the push the cold air (high pressure) affects on warm air (low pressure) and affects weather patterns. We end up with a jet stream that moves way north and we get warmer temps.
When asked why Colorado got more snow this year...isn't that silly when global warming would mean less snow...his answer was this: In Colorado the snow usually occurs in the late fall and last winter. In the dead of winter it is usually so cold that the air cannot carry enough humidity to bring much snow. So, Colorado got rain in late fall and is now getting snow (when it usually does not get snow) because the temps. are not low enough to prevent snow...global warming.
PMoon...does this sound right to you? Are temps warmer in Colorado this year?
The researcher's name is Robert Hensen from Boulder, for anyone who cares.

So the jetstream has moved? I haven't seen that. GW is a slow process... Decimal points of degrees per year yet 10 -15 degrees in Colorado is being (hypothetically) blamed on GW effects? I blame the tooth fairy for the drool on my pillow last night. She had the wrong house.

Man, you need to read some books. The theory is that after the 2,000 (+)nuclear weapons we and the Russians exploded during our "tests" of the 1940's and 1950's the average temps of the planet went up (basic cause and effect, Pete). During the resultant twenty years the temps. went down a bit...a new (terrifying) trend. Now, because of global industrialization, temps. are going up again. China alone burns more coal today than the US and Europe combined during our industrial revolution...because they have tons of it, literally. They are trying to cut in on our oil market because they are noticing the harmful environmental effects, not to mention birth defects, their filthy coal causes. Our coal is much cleaner than theirs, but they would rather compete for oil than buy coal from us.

October and November were normal, then after the first weekend in December it got unusually warm until Jan. 1 up here (I live about 70 miles west of Denver). Another unusual thing was Denver got socked with 2 big storms and we hardly got touched. Usually it's the other way around.

The Amazon jungle is the world's largest tropical rainforest. The forest covers the basin of the Amazon, the world's second longest river.
The Amazon is home to the greatest variety of plants and animals on Earth. A 1/5 of all the world's plants and birds and about 1/10 of all mammal species are found there
Central Africa holds the world's second largest rainforest. To the south east, the large island of Madagascar was once intensively forested, but now much of it is gone.
Africa contains areas of high cloud forest, mangrove swamps and flooded forests. The island of Madagascar is home to many unique plants and animals not found anywhere else.

Any success today? No, didn't even cut a single track. We did see about 60 deer, but no elk. It was warmer today than yesterday. Low in the morning was 0 and it got to 18 before we left. Next weekend is it.
The reason we haven't seen many elk this year is the warmer temps. We have saw some on private land at about 13,000 feet. The elk will stay on the high ridges until you get alot of snow and they can't easily feed. That combined with sub zero temperatures will drive them down to 9 or 10 thousand.
