Holding fund raisers to pay for families of players to go to the title game. Isn't that "special benefits" for athletes????

Well, OSU investigated THEMSELVES and found no violations.
Guess we can all rest easy now.

they did the right thing.
There was a spagetti dinner, two players from Akron went with thier parents, it was a surprise fundraiser to send the parents to the National Championship game put on by friends....
The athletes and the parents of the athletes said "Hey, this could be trouble"....they called the Ohio State coach and told them the situation that arose. Coach said "you should leave" and they left.
Thats how a player IS SUPPOSED to deal with these things, should they arise.
Beanie and Pittman didn't know it was a fundraiser, they didn't help raise any money, and when they realized it could be trouble they called a coach and left.

this is getting really stupid
first off, the ncaa if it were a decent organization would give tickets to bowl games to players parents or at least offer them. This is a big deal for these kids and the parents should be there to celebrate.
Second, the fact that the ncaa makes so much money off the major school athletes and somehow expects them to live like they are super broke college kids is insulting.

They get paid plenty while in school with their scholarships, the stars get a chance for millions after a few years.

Yeah it's amazing how the only people that make these type of comments (we should pay for parents travel or pay the kids etc) are fans of schools that have to defend against allegations of wrong doing all the time. If your program was clean you wouldn't have to defend your tactics.

It has nothing to do with their success. What I despise about schools like Ohio State (notice I mention "schools like" meaning more than just OSU) is their rule breaking and the fact that no one ever punishes them. The basketball coach was paying players out of his own pocket basically and what happened? No death penalty...........nothing. You take a small school that's not a money maker for the NCAA like say SMU and they are crushed by the NCAA for the crap. I'll go a step further and mention Notre Dame in the early 90's with their boosters paying players. They should have been taken to the cleaners by the NCAA and nothing happened......why? I root for Notre Dame just so you know.
The double standard is what sickens me.

i am aware of your fandome of Notre Dame. your real issue is your school is a has been, that hasnt won a bowl game in forever. this "cheating" claim is laughable. you have no evidence just a bad attitude about a school you are jealous of

again every major program cheats.
Donnie edwards took money when he was at ucla, bush and leinart and jarrett all cheated at usc.
at one point steve spurrier said when referring to a prospect that decommitted to fla and committed to alabama said that apparently alabama's scholarships are more valuable than fla's.
what I find to be so offensive is that players get a free education but aren't required to actually do anything with it. as a matter of fact they are persuaded from taking challenging classes that mean something.
hell they dont' even go to class
also, the ncaa and universities make all knds of money off these kids and the kids should be given some sort of stipend above and beyond what they get
The NCAA finally realized this recently and decided to allow athletes to have a job earning up to $2000 during the school year (Greenlee 63). This, while well intended, is an impossibility for many, if not the majority of college athletes. As Greenlee states, "The hours athletes would spend working at a job are already spoken for" (63). The sport they play is their job; it takes up as much time (likely more) as the normal student’s job at the cafeteria or student center, yet they do not get paid. The schools have to make up for this by finding some way to compensate these athletes.

What do you mean? You said these guys are broke, I basically said they arent, and they arent. They get a free ride to school, thats pretty expensive. You think Troy Smith paid to attend Ohio State?
Im sure life was very good for Troy Smith the last couple years.
And yeah, I do agree there are some rules being broken everywhere, even Michigan.
What else do these guys need besides a place to live, tuition paid, books paid, food paid, girls whenever they want, and fame in their college town or even national fame.

I mean their families are so loaded that they just ask their parents or get a job when they need more than books, food and shelter.

lol, you have no idea what your talking about. I guess you never had to pay for college. The loans I will have to repay will not be fun.
Thats what the athletic scholarship is for. These big time Universities are not cheap. If the parent doesnt have enough money and the student does not have decent grades, they wouldnt be going to college without sports.
Plus, the stars of college football will go on to make millions in the NFL, even if you only get a rookie contract. Troy Smith made Ohio State money, Ohio State will make Troy Smith a lot of money.
Its not the schools fault that some players fail to take advantage of a free education at a top University.
College football players are paid, they are paid with an opportunity.

this is honestly the stupidest thing you've ever posted. congrats, you've sunk to a new and before now impossible low.
1. comparing yourself to a student athlete is a complete joke. you don't make whatever school you go to here money. but troy smith makes a ton of money for osu, more than he might ever make on his own.
2. so this opportunity that they get how does it pay for things like off campus housing?, going out to eat, going out at all, or cars? do thye not deserve clothes? Or since they have a free education they are not supposed to learn to live like adults? Half of what you learn in college you learn outside of class.
3. when your coach and ad dictate to the players what classes to take in order to pass then yes it most certainly is the school's fault that they never gave the player the opportunity.
4. how many troy smiths are there?
we'll agree to disagree on this issue

Should I send you my student loan Bills when they start comming?
If I went to Michigan, I would need to be a fulltime student and make around $30,000 a year just to pay tuition, books, food, and whatever else I need for school.
It just so happens, a Michigan football player doesnt have to worry about that bill, while in school or after school. What the players choose to do while at school is up to them. if they choose to major in football, then thats their choice and they better hope they make it. Not all Football players take Football 101.

No that's not the real issue. I said Notre Dame has been guilty of past violations and should have gotten creamed by the NCAA but didn't. That's an a typical OSU fan response though. Deflect criticism of your tactics by saying someone is "jealous". Why am I not ranting and raving about USC then? You know, the team that played for 3 straight national titles and has more titles than OSU does since 1968. Come to think of it just about every major college football team has more than OSU since 1968.

Good question, because they for sure had violations with Reggie Bush.
For some reason you only single out Ohio State for violations that didn't happen, or violations that have already been dealt with by the University and the NCAA..... while letting USC's program off the hook for something that hasn't even been investigated including Reggie Bush getting 100K,.

how they got there is not important in this discussion
you are not someone who brings in 384k revenue for a school every single year they are.
and I'm trying to sink to your level.
ok so we factor in school costs. do we then negate all the rest of the costs associated with going to school?
answer those questions, and then think about your life without all of those things, and then think about your "school" making a 384k off you

the whole pay the players thing is crap. 90 percent of the guys on the teams never play in the NFL, they are more then getting a fair shake with a full ride. if the other 10 percent could go straight to the NFL, NCAA football would still be popular and make money for the schools.

Who are the players that you think generate the revenue for schools liek Ohio State? I would think Troy Smith and Tedd Ginn Jr are probably the players that hve the most fans. Both those guys will get rewarded.
Plus, I would say the school name is what generates the most revenue. You think ND is in a BCS game without being ND?
Also, dont think these major programs dont spend money each year. They spend like NFL teams to recruit these players, give these players the best facilities, the best coaches, and the best training.
