MONTREAL—The strange tale of Myriam Bédard has taken another twist: An arrest warrant has been issued for the two-time Olympic gold medallist for allegedly abducting her daughter.

According to Quebec City police, the warrant was issued Dec. 5 after a complaint by Bédard's former partner, Jean Paquet, the father of the 11-year-old.

The warrant alleges Bédard has refused to give Paquet any access to their daughter since Oct. 3. It's not known where Bédard, her daughter, and current husband Nima Mazhari are living, but it's believed they may be in the U.S.

In late September, Mazhari and Bédard wrote U.S. Ambassador David Wilkins saying they planned to seek asylum from "bureaucratic terrorism" in Canada, and that they would be leaving Montreal for Washington, D.C., on Oct. 2 with documents in their car.
