According to the Rockridge Institute, founded by congnative scientist and linguistics expert George Lakoff, sice Ronald Reagan Presidents have not been elected based on where they stand on the issues, but on two things:
1. How likable there are.
2. Ability to connect to the value system of voters.
There stuff is pretty interesting.

They had a news report about this guy over here last night. Is he really as popular as they were making out? They had him doing his speech, then commented that the only "black face" in the building was his. They then cut to shots of white American men and women looking at him adoringly.
Is this a reality, or is the media just making it out to be more than it really is simply because the guy is black?

Nah he's fairly real, he's like a baby Clinton.
JKiG when I was younger I once read that in a vast majority (like 90%) of elections the taller guy won....
here's one "In his 1982 book Too Small, Too Tall psychologist John Gillis presents similar results: in the 21 presidential elections from 1904 to 1984, the taller candidate won 80 percent of the time. What's more, he says, in the whole history of the Republic, only two presidents--Harrison and James Madison (5'4")--were appreciably shorter than the average height in their day." http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a3_308.html
I think Obama's like 6'4''

It's almost scary how much of a reality this is. The only people who talk shit about him haven't heard him speak. The typical right wing talking point is that John Q public will never vote for someone with a funny name like that. They've never heard him speak.
I just watched a few speeches of his on his website www.barackobama.com it's crazy, but I thought I picked up on at least 10 different regional dialects in his speaking pattern. I even heard him use the Buffalo "A" which is unmistakable. But he varies his diction so well and subtly that it never sounds like he's doing a voice. He's almost hypnotic in his rehearsed speeches.
If you're interested, here's how he introduced himself to the world.

I think he has the JFK thing going for him. And I think he has way more charisma than W and Ronnie Regan combined.

I think he can melt any misgivings based on race in most reasonable people. I'd bet only 5-10% of the voting populous would let their predjudices control their vote.
btw, check out the future first lady's profile.

Everytime I hear about this guy, its like I'm watching a movie where they pluck some guy at random and decide to make him president just to see if it can be done.

just because i dont think everything is as simple as race doesn't mean i dont think it exists. i dont think a woman could be president either...doesnt mean everyone is a sexist.

Yeah, but if you concede that it would be incredibly difficult for a black man to become president because of racism, you've got to understand why I feel so adamant about bringing race to the forefront of certain conversations.

Obama is the real deal.
Experience can be overrated and this man oozes greatness.
He should be the next president if racism doesn't factor into the equation.

I heard that underlined section spouted off about Bush when I lived in New Mexico and he was running for Prez. as governor of Texas. Look where his great promise brought us: no-tax and spend neo-cons.
I personally think that we should give the job of chief executive of the most powerful and influential country in the history of the world to someone who has shown a modicum of previous ability, not to people of great promise.
People of great promise can haunt the halls of the Senate and of gubenatorial mansions until they show ability.
