Good for West Virginia for stepping up to keep him if that's what happened. But this is a rippling effect on a lot of levels.
First, for WVU, they kept a very good coach with a very good team returning.
Second, for the Big East, this is great news. The more quality coaches they can get to stay where they are means the more consistent they'll get as a conference. And that will translate into becoming a better overall league. So far that's Petrino, Schiano, and Rodriquez. The three coaches from the conferences three best teams have decided (for now........I still think Petrino may go before it's all said and done) to stay where they are in favor of going to big time schools like Alabama, Miami, and Arizona State - in conferences like the SEC, ACC, and Pac-10.
And finally, what the hell does this say about Alabama? They screwed up. They should not have let Shula go in the first place. Now, they are left with no Saban, no Rodriquez, no Petrino (for now), no Spurrier, no Tuberville, no one at all.
But, hey, all you have to do at Bama now is win ten games AND beat Auburn. If you do that, you can stay there for the rest of your life. Simple stuff, huh?
Those people and their expectations are ridiculous.
