View Full Version : Is there a doctor in the house?

Yesterday on my way out of the DR.'s office ( I have an ear infection) I slipped and fell directly onto my left knee.....hurt like hell....but I found it funny (thats the way I am) I thought I should just run back inside yelling "lawsuit!" But I just got to my feet and drove home....On the way back it felt like my knee was on fire and it ached. I thought I would just walk it off but everytime my pants rubbed against my knee it burned badly. So I sucked it up walked into my house and went on with my daily routine with a bit of a limp.

This morning I woke up and my knee was completely numb...I mean I cant feel anything at all....unless I press on it....then it goes back to burning like hell. I can walk just fine.....no bruising at all....maybe some swelling but its too hard to tell.

So does anyone know what is wrong with my knee?

I'm in the medical field:

Although it is the following day after you had fallen in front of the doctors office, you do need to call that office this morning and tell them what happened on their property. Not that I'm telling you that you have a lawsuit, but what was the surroundings? Snow? Ice? Your fault? Either way that office needs to be notified. As far as your knee is concerned you can not feel your knee because of the swelling. The swelling from your fall is most likely pressing on the nerves in your knee in which you can only feel when you press on it. The good news? Your young and this will heal. What to do? You really have no choice but to see the best for a injury like this, a sports medicine doctor. I'm not kidding. I know your thinking $$$$ in medical visits if you have no insurance or maybe just in co-pays, but that ties into you letting the office that you did fall in front of know of what happened. That office just might pay your medical tabs. Let me know how this works for you.

Yeah the ramp outside of the door was all ice....lots of people were slipping....My knee is definitely swollen....and now when I bend it I can feel something stretching inside my knee.

Thanks for the advice!

Please for your own health now and in the future, have that knee looked at.
Also make sure you place a call to that MD's office that you had fallen at. Good luck and keep me posted. :)

The perineal and tibial nerves are proximate in this area if memory serves me right. Seems that all the major innervation is buried in deep muscle (for a reason) so that this inflammation must be pretty damned serious.

If that's the case I'd see an orthopod to perhaps see if corticosteriods are a possible indication. What's your take?

Coastal would be a good one to weigh in on this. More than me.

There are many natural nutritional approaches to take to MAINTAIN good health.

But I think the "hate western medicine" stuff is just utter ignorant crap. People that propagate alternative treatments for serious medical issues are going beyond arrogance. They are propagating harm to others. A form of layman's quackery.

I received some quack advice from some here when I was losing innervation in my lower arm and hand. Had I waiting and tried the nutrtional/herbal/holistic horse shit that some suggested I would have never had any recovery from the injury as the surgery would have been useless at that point.

Anyone advocating non-traditional cures for anything more than a cold needs a big swig of :stfu: 'edness pronto.

it's a knee bruise.

don't be a wuss.

give it some time to heal before you pay some quack to poke/prod and then tell you: "let it rest for 2 weeks, you will be fine".

No, actually I'd give it a few days. Then I'd get it checked to see if he has a chip fracture or something like that. If it starts to get better than leave it be. If not then be safe about it and get it checked out.

Oh, okay. I thought with you wanting to verify if some one has been to medical school to make their advice credible -- you would have attended medical school yourself.

It all makes sense now ...

Dont worry nehemiah, I'm not going to a doc, I dont have insurance yet anyway.

but this had to be the strangest injury I've ever experienced.... when I first got hit in the knee it stung a lot, then 5-10 seconds later after trying to walk/jog it off, my knee locked up and I couldnt walk or bend it (scariest worst feeling I've had in awhile physically). I had to lay down on the court for like 10 minutes (worrying about what happened) then I got up and hopped on one leg (still couldnt bend it) to the sideline and sat on a table for another 10 minutes and then I was able to walk. I didnt know what was up but I tried playing b-ball again and that wasn't happening so I limped to my car went to wegmans and got some food and ice and iced all night and figured out it was a bruise. I still couldnt put much pressure on it when i went to bed. I read that it can take up to 2 weeks for a knee bruise to heal too so I was worried about not being able to work out or whatnot but when I woke up this morning I could jog so I think I'll be 100% in a couple days.

Life is good.

Update: Went to the Docs today....Damaged the tendon on the front of my knee....and some serious damage to the nerve ending in my knee....cant sit or stand for too long and have to ice it alot...Tendon will take a month to heal but the nerves wont heal for a while....also cant climb any steps....kind of sucks.

The checkup was free of charge.

Nerves, when they heal, heal at a rate of 1 mm a day. So it will take a while.

This is why you should not take the advice of the holistic crowd. They'd have told you to rub some dirt on it. :D

All I could do was advise you to see the MD. Ask the PTs around here for follow-up treatment. They're qualified, we're not.
