Rangers:
This morning we received news that aour dear friend Joy--the grandmother of my stepson--was critically injured in a car crash in New Mexico.
Joy is one of those truly unique people you meet once and never forget. She has enough love for everyone, and has treated my children as if they were her own grandkids, even though my wife divorced her son ten years ago. She's been a true friend to my wife. She adopted two trouble girls--one with downs syndrome and the other with a drug dependency--and raised them like her own. She supported her husband through a large chunk of his 20 years in the military, and in the years since.
She's an angel of a woman, and despite the awkward way I SHOULD feel about my wife's ex mother-in-law, I care for her deeply.
Joy's spine was severed during the accident. Her husband and daughter walked away with bruises and cuts, but Joy remains in intensive care at this time, undergoing surgery to stabilize her spinal column. Doctors say she will probably never walk again.
Please, as you go about your lives today, keep Joy and her family in your thoughts and/or prayers. No one deserves this kind of pain, especially not someone who spreads so much love to other people. I know she would do the same for anybody, and has on many occasions.
Thanks.
