Ok ~ for the past hour and 1/2, I have been working w/my 6 yeard old son putting together his wish list. It consists of everything and anything Star Wars related. So we have the letter completed and now we have walked it to the mailbox.
Where do all these letters that are sent to the North Pole every year go?

Usually the parents just take them out of the mailbox when the kid isnt around, and then burn them, hide them, or throw them away.

No they don't!
OK ~ What about the parents who go to the post office and drop it in the box?
I want to know where all these letters go. Doesn't someone on this range work for the post office?

Are you kidding? You're not really supposed to mail them! It's for the parent to keep, I assume. I'm not one, but I doubt my folks remembered everything I wanted from memory when I was a kiddie. I mean if you did mail them, honestly, what would you expect the post office would do with them?

Lots of places have services now that'll put a "Santa" postmark on it. The USPS does this...
http://www.usps.com/communications/news/press/2004/pr04_086.htm
Search a bit, you'll find other services that do similar things... My guess is, if a postal worker sees a letter like that, it goes to a place that they do the stamping, if all instructions are followed. Some places have you pay to do it. Go figure.
Hope this helps answer the question.

No because you are taking a course that leads to you being a pauper it means that your child will hate you from an earlier age. Hell, Santa is brilliant. Especially if your family was dirt poor. I mean you could take your rage out on Santa and so your parents would have a few more years of your respect. So sure NWF if you want them to hate you at two or three go ahead.

Santa is magical. To watch their little faces light up to this whole mysterious person, who brings them gifts.
You really are a moron aren't you? To not know the meaning of Santa?

I found out the hard way,At age 6 I accidently went in my dad office to get some paper, but in there were all the presents. I studied them for a minute or two, and on Xmas woke up and found the same things there.
Why lie to them, seriously? One day he's gonna go to two diffrent malls and see Santa there and be like "Wait I just say you about 10 mins ago, how did you get here so quick?"

Back when I believed in Santa I thought I was real clever
for example with your mall reference I figured Santa planted fakes to make his job easier so I never thought they were real nor did I want to have any communication with them.... i was on to their tricks
the other day i was watching The Santa Clause and i remembered as a child i caught the parents in a logical fallacy.... if they thought santa was fake how can they explian the existence of presents on christmas morning!? haha surely they would know they didnt buy and label the gifts and they couldnt just appear out of nowhere, the only logical explanation is Santa.
and unrelated i almost discovered the santa thing early but 2 things kept me believing, one christmas eve i remember banging on the roof... had to be santas sleigh i figured, exitedly, then tried to sleep as not to offend santa, who i had come to realize enjoyed his privacy and did not want to be seen (why else would he do it at night when we are in bed? he doesnt do it for the publicity!)
one other night i heard the cookies i left out being eaten down the hall, no talking or anything, just crunching... never went in the room, again, so as to not offend St. Nick and to leave him to his privacy.
I take this same approach with pro athletes i see around town actually...
and yes gopchick, the belief in Santa is magical... when you hear banging on the roof and know it's santa it's ecstasy

Very good story Evans.
When I was very young I lived in Conn. I was 5 when we moved to Florida. So anyways the last Christmas I spent in Conn. I was 4. Christmas morning came and my sister and I woke up to go running into our parents room. My sister at this time was 6 so she was having her doubts. So asked my mom if Santa came, and my mom said look out the window and see if you can see the deer prints in the snow.
So both my sister and I looked out the window and there were deer imprints in the snow from where they had just laid. The both of us started jumping up and down screaming that Santa had come. From that day forward we both believed in Santa.
I tell this same story to my son every year. It is the magic that you see dancing in your kids eyes that just makes every parent carry on the tradition. I don't think of it as a lie, I think of it as giving them the gift of hope, and faith.
Hey maybe this has something to do with morals and ethics???

What is wrong with all of you? Is it because now we are adults that the magic of Santa is dead? Can't anyone remember when it was the best thing in the world when we were kids? Why do we feel the need the ruin the fun and magic for our own children because now as adults we realize that Christmas and Santa has become more of a marketing issue? Don't you think they will find that out for themselves as we have? Maybe I am old fashion but as an adult I really wish there was a Santa and I also wish that I never became an adult to find out otherwise.

So help me understand your meaning Sab. You want children to know right off the bat that there is no Santa, Easter Bunny or Toothfairy. You want them to just be adults from the get go.

so what you're saying is when a child finds out Santa, Easter Bunny and the Toothfairy aren't real they become adults?
No that not what I mean at all, but they should be told the truth...like the true spirit of St. Nick, don't lie and say some fat bastard goes around to every house and gives presents on one night

Santa is hilarious to me. People lie to their children about an old fat dude bringing them presents on the messiah's birthday.
Then when the kids get older they learn that their parents lied to them all along.
Perhaps the moral of the story is that the messiah is also a mythology made up to make little children feel better about the world.
I've always wondered if Christians ever ponder the irony of turning the celebration of their God's birth on earth into a consumerist holiday that creates a mentality in their children that runs counter to everything their God taught. Compounding the irony is the mass fraud that Christians perpetrate upon their children by creating this mythological santa, but instead of using the lesson to destory magical thinking in their children when they come of age, they use it to reinforce absolute magical thinking.

I don't have any.
Look, just because I recognize the absurdity of certain aspects of our culture, it does not mean that I do not continue to take part in them. I celebrate Christmas like everyone else, but it just holds a different meaning to me than most people. I absolutely love the fact that Christmas brings people together to eat well and have fun in each other's company. To me, the purpose of life is just that; to spend as much time as possible with loved ones doing things that make you happy. Christmas aims to achieve this very thing, and that is what I love about it. I don't buy into the whole fairy tale thing (either Santa or Jesus), but I play along with the charade because in my mind the ends justify the means in this case.

Yeah, it's like, "we got em to fall for that one (Santa) BIG TIME. Then We pull the rug out from under em (shatter the magic), and if we can get em to believe it all over again (Bajebus) we got em hooked for life."
There has to be some kind of psychological profile on this, hmm, maybe it's called brainwashing?
