CTN has looked across the League as we approach the quarter mark of the season and decided to hand out its own Best Supporting Player nods.

We're not sure what the statuettes will look like yet, although a representation of Cam Neely being cross-checked in the back as he pots another goal is a working theme at the moment. We're also a little concerned about the speeches (no profanity, please) and the fashion statements (playoff beards optional) at the awards ceremony. But, what an after-party it will be!

To be eligible for consideration for a CTN Best Supporeting Player Award, a player must have played at least 10 games so far and cannot average more than 10 minutes of ice time per game. These are the true unsung heroes -- the guys that work the walls, bang bodies, battle in the crease area, block shots, win faceoffs -- that make the most of every second of playing time they earn from the coaching staff. Because of the on-ice minutes cutoff, we only considered forwards for this edition of the list.

We'll revisit the Supporting Player them again throughout the season, narrowing and adjusting the list until we get to Crashing the Net All-Star Team at the end of the season. For now, here are 20 players that CTN would take on its team any day of the week.

Adam Mair, Buffalo -- Having returned from post-concussion syndrome last season, Mair has found a home on Buffalo's fourth line. Although he has just one goal and three points this year, Mair plays an important part of perhaps the best fourth line in the League at the moment. His hard work and versatility -- he can play both center and wing -- is part of the reason opposing teams can't take a breather when Lindy Ruff taps Mair and Co. on the shoulder.

Gotta love seeing Mair get a little recognition. He's probably the most underappreciated player on the team.
