If you had to pick one Sabre that has been a disappointment so far this season, who would it be?
I am going with either Kalinin or Lydman!!

Roy or Lydman.

What about Hecht?

None.
I'll say Tallinder just because he has the exact same injury; it has nothing to do with how he played.

I would have to say Kalinin. This guy is supposedly supposed to be our #1 guy and i still don't see it. He has had flashes of excellent play, but to be a #1 guy, you have got to perform like HANK does!!!
Well, it doesn't matter, we are 15-1-1 and about to be 16-1-1 in about 4 hours.....
LETS GO BUFFALO!!!

I'm surprised at the kalinin talk. I think he's been our best defenseman and paired with numminen they both look great.
I'll say roy, I just dont' like him, but that is more like I wish he would produce a little more with the players he's got around him

OK, then I'll say none. I can't find a disappointment on this team. It's unfortunate that at 15-1-1, people still want to look at negatives.

Hecht by far.

Its tough to criticize anybody really.
D.K. just looks a little slow.
I have seen him play better.
I like him but sometimes he takes to long clearing the puck IMHO.

The Sabres are plus-10 when Roysy is on the ice and he's on pace to finish with 67 points. Granted, a lot of his numbers are a tribute to Max and Vanek, but I'll take those kind of numbers from D-Roy any day.

I think he's paired better with drury, but right now i see roy kinda like steve ruccin was with anaheim awhile ago, when he had kariya and selanne on the wings, not a bad year.
I would say hecht is our biggest, but he's a good two way player and the defensive player on the briere line.
Cant really argue with anyone on our team right now.

I'd say Hecht, except I don't expect anything from him.
So I'll say Kotalik.

As for tonight, they all disappointed me except Biron although he did let the side angled shot in.

i have said it many times before, and i'll say it again... Biron has one of the worst short-side coverages in the league.
other than him the last few games, i've got to say Kotalik... he hasnt really done much at all this season and costs way too much for the little he has produced... i'm not giving up on him yet, but he needs to start producing, and he needs to start now.

spacek does have a cannon from the point, no doubt... but you have to admit he makes some bonehead plays, his turnovers are sometimes costly, it seems like he tries to force a pass here or there...he was +2 tonight so ill give him kudos for that
Carl J. Ironsides
November 15th, 2006, 11:28:29 PM
Spacek's been one of our best defensemen. He's a power play asset, a smart player and he blocks shots. Overall, he's a better fit here than McKee was, which says a lot.
Therefore, mission accomplished on that signing.

Kotalik, he has the worst +/- by far at -6 and is averaging fewer minutes than any forward but Mair and Peters.
He's on pace to score 36 points, while he scored 62 last year.

I may be wrong on that figure, when I first read it he was -4 going into tonights game, and I thought he was -2 tonight. But that turned out to be his +/- from the first Ottawa game. Not sure what his true stat is.
Coming into tonight's game, the next closest starter was Novotny at 0.

He is my AAS, but I am way disappointed in Lewd man so far. I think it is mainly when he ****s up it is usually an epic **** up that someone one day will pen a 30000 line poem about.

Kotalik doesnt get that much ice-time cause he's a power-play point man.
Besides...Novotny and Kotalik are teamed with Drury. Drury undoubtedly got alot of goals at the beginning of the season, but that entire line has been kinda unproductive as of late.
But, with that said, those 3 put up some big hits, make a good fore-check and are a key part of the team. I for one, dont think its time to trade Kotalik 16 games or whatever into the season.

Kotalik. I like the guy but there's no excuse for -6 when he has a shot like that and the strength that he has

How could a 6-1 backup goaltender possibly be a disappointment? I don't normally expect my backup goaltender to be above .500, let alone have only 1 loss.

My number 1 is Novotny, I feel Stafford the rook has outplayed him in the games he has been up. I feel Novotny in a full time role would shine but has done little. So Novotny #1, I would put Roy but he has come on very strong as of late so I took him off. Lydman probalby #2 because when he turns the pick over, he turns it over at the worst times.
So..
Novotny
Lydman

Biron. Sure he has one loss, but it's not because of his ability: GAA around 3.25, and Save % .88 is nowhere near good enough. There's no excuse for it, and we aren't going to score 5 per game every night. I have no faith when the shit hits the fan in the 3rd that he's actually going to hold the lead. The difference between he and Miller is palpable now.
Peters. I really did think he was going to be a valuable, 8-10 min per game guy. Boy was I wrong, and now I'm wondering what the hell he's even doing on the team. We can't afford a 1 min per game player - all that does is utterly **** up the 4-line team and there's no excuse for that.

Miller
Acoustic-Fury
November 17th, 2006, 9:06:13 AM
Lydman first - he seems completely lost without Tallinder, he has been making some horrible decisions with that puck lately.
Derek Roy second - he is a hustler but concentrates too much on trying to take penalties instead of fighting through it. He has had a difficult time as of late receiving that first pass from the defense. Although he was racking up assists on the Vanek and Afingoenov line...he doesn't always have a good sense of where Vanek and Afinogenov will be.
Kotalik third - As a forward I just have not been hearing his name being called during games...and for offense that is a pretty strong indicator as to how your play is.

im going to have to go with lydman as the biggest dissapointment so far. bonehead plays, turnovers usually resulting in an odd man rush or a scoring opportunity and i just think hes looked pretty bad overall. Though i have to admit, the game he left with the migraine was the best hes looked all season and that was dissapointing in itself having him leave when he wasnt sucking.

Kalinen has been one of the best defensemen out there. I rarely see him make mistakes. Oh no, he isn't on the scoresheet all the time. The guy is good. My disapointment is Larry Quinn. I still don't care for that logo.

JLB
November 17th, 2006, 11:49:05 AM
I know were supposed to jump on somebody but I'll keep what we got up and down the lineup. Some like Peters you might think don't get enough playing time to contribute. I wonder if anybody ever asked Ruff that question? Why Peters?

November 17th, 2006, 11:56:10 AM
If I HAD to choose one I deffinetly say Lydman because of all his stupid give away's that have cost the team a lot. Even though he's let us down so far though I think with time we'll see better play out of him. Our line up right now is good and dosent need any change, except for injuries and to keep our stars healthy.

The biggest disappointment has been Connolly simply because he hasn't played. Also Peters. He was supposed to have gotten better over the summer. He's the same drain on our roster s he was last year.

Tom Brady's numbers haven't been all that great in his career. You know what is great, though? His ability to win.
Just looking at players via numbers is a shallow way to do things.
