WASHINGTON - Democrats wrested control of the Senate from Republicans Wednesday with an upset victory in Virginia, giving the party complete domination of Capitol Hill for the first time since 1994.

Jim Webb's squeaker win over incumbent Sen. George Allen (news, bio, voting record) gave Democrats their 51st seat in the Senate, an astonishing turnabout at the hands of voters unhappy with Republican scandal and unabated violence in
Iraq. Allen was the sixth Republican incumbent senator defeated in Tuesday's elections.

The Senate had teetered at 50 Democrats, 49 Republicans for most of Wednesday, with Virginia hanging in the balance. Webb's victory ended Republican hopes of eking out a 50-50 split, with Vice President
Dick Cheney wielding tie-breaking authority.

Haha, this is great.

I love it.

When Bush wins, it's a mandate, when Dems wins, it's some mistake or it's downhill.

LOLOL.....I love it.

Say what you all want, this was a turn around of astronomical proportions, even bigger than what happened in 94.

The same voters all you dumbasses championed in 04 are now saying "**** OFF", and not only to any republicans, but the head honchos.

How does that feel??

When the GOP won in 1994 the MSM called it a "temper tantrum"

hardly a temper tantrum.....it's the same people who voted for Bush who wish they could change their vote, but realize shoving a shovel up his ass for the last two years of his presidency might just be more fun........and don't forget, JUSTIFIED.

In the words of Bush himself.....it was a THUMPING.

Also interesting that Rumsfeld was the right guy for the job last week and there was no chance he was going to leave....today, he "stepped down". Even Bush now realizes that if he doesn't want to go through hell, he better do some asskicking. No more free rides for him, and sure as hell no open wallet.

And do I smell a impeachment hearing coming on? We now have the majority to do it and pass it. Although I rather not and I don't think it will happen, it just shows how much control the Dems have.

Also, on the side note, for the first time in 40 years, the Dems have the majority in Governorships, which will be nice in 08.
