Anyways while I am for slashing defence budgets I would much rather appropriate money to education, workfare, childcare, pensions, and other social programs that would see a spike in taxes in the near run but over time see a reduction in taxes and improvement in the lives of all Americans.

While I will not support reparations, except to native Americans, I do think that we need to look at this situation in colorblind terms where we help ALL the poor. We need to reduce some of the defense budget, and this can be done by pulling out of places we don't need to be like Europe (except keep Ramstein open maybe) and the Base in Qatar and one in South Korea. Reparations will not work and will do nothing for anyone. What would work would be funding of education (especially university education), job creation incentives (call it workfare if you want), childcare for single mothers, and other programs that would give a hand up. People tend to be violent because they are without hope.

Actually I say slash monies devoted to the maintence of weapons not even in combat. Besides paying soldiers, that's what costs the most. Sure you guys have amazing toys. But man, you know how freakin expensive it is to keep those weapons in operation? A lot.
