Republican Sen. John McCain, a possible 2008 presidential candidate, said Friday the United States should send another 20,000 troops to Iraq.

A member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, McCain said increasing U.S. forces would require expanding the standing Army and Marine Corps - a step the Bush administration has resisted. He also reiterated his opposition to a hasty U.S. withdrawal.

I agree, but even that is not enough. It is increasingly clear that if we are to beat the insurgents then we are going to need to at least double our troop presence there and get NATO involved and possibly the Saudis, Turks, and Jordanians to put the Sunni at ease. Lets face it the Iraqi national army is still a long way from fruition but if we can put say 500K boots on the ground and train an integrated army then we have hope if not the place is going further to pot.

Gibby that sounds a little like the escalation that took place in Viet Nam.
Am I wrong? In numbers!!

Yes it does sound like Nam but we should have counted on something like that before we went in.

I so don't want them to do this.
Do you really agree with McCain?
