Welcome to the Range's first official mock draft leading up to 2007 NFL Draft.
Enjoy the ride!
1.) Washington (from Miami) - Brady Quinn, QB Notre Dame - Mark Brunnell was done three years ago and Todd Collins is their backup. People are losing interest in the Redskins, and Daniel Snyder had to do something to make some noise again. Thank God there is a worse owner in the NFL than Ralph.
2.) Detroit - Gaines Adams, DE Clemson - This kid has Julius Peppers written all over him. Mario Williams didn't start off at the top of the draft charts, but when it gets down to crunch time, Gaines will have the same rise up the charts. He'll look good coming off the edge opposite of Jason Hall.
3.) Arizona - Sam Baker, OT USC - Arizona is becoming USC East Campus. Arizona made an investment last year in a Heismann trophy winner, and now they are making an investment in protecting that investment. Got that?
4.) Oakland - Frank Okam, DT Texas - Wow. The pundits have been screaming for Oakland to take a quarterback, but when they didn't get in on the Brady Quinn sweepstakes, the gig was up. Actually, Al is continuuing to do the smart thing in building a stout D. Huff is reunited with an old team mate.
5.) Tennessee - Calvin Johnson, WR GTech - I think this is best physcial freak of the 2007 calss and very easily could have gone number one. If Vince Young is going to be successful in this league, he'll need someone other than himself for defenses to sweat about. Scary combo!
6.) Cleveland - Adrian Peterson, RB Oklahoma - Some thought Ginn might complete a nice addition to Winslow and Edwards, but they also need someone other than Droughns to run the rock. I would never touch a RB with a collarbone history, but the kid's talent is unquestioned.
7.) Houston (from Miami) - Joe Thomas, OT Wisconsin - Houston didn't expect to have shot at this kid, but when he fell out of the top 5, they had to move up to once and for all get the left tackle they have been missing. Houston now has one of the best, youngest, and deepest offensive lines in the NFL.
8.) Buffalo - Leon Hall, CB Michigan - Oh Christ! The Range is going to be popping. Gil, wagon, and every single Losmaniac is going to be lighting up the boards complaining about how the oline is ignored and how JP will never be successful! One person won't be chiming in along with them when the pick is announced... coastal! It is one of the most glaring needs on this team as most of our CB's suck and clements will be long gone before this day. This also would complete the revamping of our secondary for years to come. The opportunity to revamp the oline was last year and Marv blew it.
9.) San Francisco - Ted Ginn, Jr., WR Ohio State - The attempt at the Alex Smith reclamation project is now complete. Vernon Davis, Antonio Bryant, Frank Gore and now ginn give the niners all the weapons they need.
10.) Miami - Laron Landry, S LSU - Aside from amassing close to a handful of draft picks in moving down, they still get the guy they really covetted anyways. Laron and Allen look like a formidable duo on paper. They are now like Buffalo in that they have their safety positions filled admirably for the next decade barring free agency defection.
11.) Pittsburgh - Paul Polsluszny, LB PSU - Its been a while since a team famed for it's linebackers has been driven by the play of them. Paul's still showing affects of a knee injury but once he's in Pittsburgh, he'll make a nice addition.
12.) Green Bay - Jake Long, OT Michigan - ****! He would have loooked good in a Bills uniform. This is a great pick by Green Bay.
13.) Tampa Bay - Zach Miller, TE Arizona St. - Some thought Gruden would end Brohm's slide, but he believes he can take Bruce and turn him into the quarterback he needs. Too bad that he keeps ignoring Monte's aging defense. Quinton Moses would have been the right pick here for the team.
14.) Dallas - Justin Blaylock, OG Texas - Is there any more of a no brainer pick for the Cowboys. You just knew if this guy was sitting there, he was going to be selected.
15.) Kansas City - Alan Branch, DT Michigan - Another Wolverine goes in the top 15. this guy is going to be a very REAL replacement for Ryan Sims... who is a total bust at DT.
16.) Jacksonville - Levi Brown, OT PSU - Pick a spot, any spot and plug this guy in. He can play either RT or either guard spot from day one.
17.) New York Jets - Quinten Moses, DE/OLB Georgia - They want to make the switch to the 3-4 defense and this guy will help them do that in a very large way. This team continues to build itself from the inside-out.
18.) Philadelphia - Kenny Irons, RB Auburn - This guy is a running back! He ain't no Westbrook... he runs the ball. He'll make a nice addition to the Eagles.
19.) Carolina - Patrick Willis, ILB Miss. St. - Carolina needs some reinforcements in the linebacking core and they certainly will be happy with this pick.
20.) San Diego - Dwayne Jarrett, WR USC - Philip rivers looks like the real deal and would benefit from someone who is used to catching the ball on the west coast.
21.) St. Loius - Marcus Thomas, DT Florida - If this kid stays out of real trouble he is a beast and could be a steal here. St. Louis will have a nasty D with him and Leonard Little on the field together.
22.) Cincinnati - Quinn Pitcock, DT - They don't have any standouts on the Dline, but adding Quinn makes their rotation much more solid.
23.) Baltimore - Brian Brohm, QB Louisville - The kid almost killed himself in the backroom, but he finally heard his name called. The Brian and Brian show won't begin for a couple of years, but this pick makes a lot of sense.
24.) Atlanta - Ryan Harris, OT Notre Dame - Wayne Gandy isn't getting any younger and if there is a tackle left on the board that fits in better to Atlanta's system than this kid, let me know.
25.) Minnesota - Andre Caldwell, WR Florida - Andre is going to be a steal in this draft and is needed badly up in Minnesota.
26.) New England - Jeff Samardzija, WR Notre Dame - Coming from Charlie Weiss's system into play with Tom Brady. Their offense is now restocked for the next five years.
27.) New York Giants - DeMarcus Tyler, DT NC State - John McCargo who?
28.) Buffalo (from New Orleans) - Victor Abiamiri, DE Notre Dame - He ****ing did it again? Can you believe the sack on this old man? Bye-bye Denneslay! We finally have someone who can play the position every down. This defense is getting a total revamp from the Donahoe era and speed is the name of the game. It's not how I would have built the team, but you can't argue that they don't have a plan and aren't sticking to it. We'll see you on day 2 beacuse we are without a pick until then. We still need some linebackers. Maybe next year.
29.) New England - Marcus McCauley, CB Fresno St. - This guy has all the measureables and will make a great addition to the Patriots. If they're able to keep Asante as well, their secondary will be one of the strengths of the team again.
30.) Denver - Lamar Woodley, DE Michigan - This kid is the complete end and should contribute immediately.
31.) Chicago - Josh Beekman, OG BC - This guy will be starting for years to come, and should replace Ruben Brown when he retires.
32.) Indianapolis - Michael Griffin - S Texas - A duo of Sanders and Griffin ranks up there with what Miami and Buffalo now have as their safety tandems.

So how did we get the 28th pick from NO ?

The Redskins are not taking a quarterback. Jason Campbell has been taking snaps with the first-string offense and is about to take the reins.
Basically, good effort on the mock, but it was screwed up from the word go.

your comment on the bills is pretty stupid. on both of their picks.
there is no way peterson is a top 10 back anymore. his injury history is a huge red flag and will force his stock to drop significantly

you tried man, you tried.
I dont' think abimiamiri or however you spell his name from nd is a first round pick ever, nor do I think quinn is first pick worthy. but I also hate nd and think that they are vastly overrated as are all their players.
as you know there are plenty of good linemen in this draft too, so the time is always now to upgrade the line

nope. Jut because I hate them as a team doesn't mean anything when projecting them to the nfl.
for instance, quinn made a big mistake not coming pout last year as he has taken a significant step back from what he did last year. he seems more prone to making game losing mistakes. see michigan, msu, and ucla. they should be a three loss team but things work out in their favor. he has all the measurables, but doesn't come up big in big games. Over the last 2 years find me the best win he has for nd.

And by the way, Daniel Snyder doesn't make the Redskins' draft day decisions.
Joe Gibbs does, with some help from Vinny Cerrato. Snyder's the man with the money; Gibbs, ever since he showed up again, has been making the decisions on which players to draft.

like the DE Coastal, especially if we can get an explosive DT to compliment him in Free Agency but I question the CB choice. I'd rather take an OL but I guess it would work if we could get an OL in Free Agency.

I bet there is not a single team in the top 10 that would take him over lynch, or irons. he may have the most talent but he is now injury prone.
That is going to drop him to the middle of the first

Couple Thoughts
-I cant see Washington making that move unless JC gets his shot the rest of the way and completely falls on his face. Also I dont think the Skins are willing to give what it would take to move up there. W/out a 2nd round pick this year they would have to put together a pretty massive package to move from 7 to 1. Miami would also have to be willing to give up the chance to draft CJ or there choice of LT. Plus they would be betting that Landry would be there at 7(and then 10) and I think it would take a heck of a deal for them to move out of that spot down to #7
-I cant see Okam as a top 5 pick and I cant see the Raiders taking him there or at all. Defense isnt there problem, offense is. I could see them going after a LT b/c Gallery has been a complete bust so far or knowing Al he could go after the biggest name on the board b/c he likes headlines. I would expect them to trade down also if CJ fell to them and they didnt want him there would be more than 1 team willing to come up for him
-I really dont see R.Harris as a 1st round pick. I think Jared Gaither, Barry Richardson, and Joe Staley are all better than him. The only one of those I could see going in the late 1st is Staley
-I dont think Victor Abiamiri is a 1st rounder either. He has been to inconsistant this year to warrent 1st round consideration. Guys like Ray McDonald, Adam Carriker, and Lawrence Jackson should all go before him. He will likely be a 1st dayer but not a 1st rounder. Also w/ the Bills being down to 6 picks all ready I cant imagine they are going to be in a trade up mode as they were last year w/ all the extra picks they had

Little early to be doing mock drafts with out knowing what juniors are going to declare. I also dont agree with alot of your picks. Okam is not a top 5 draft pick and is not even the top DT on the board. Leon Hall is a good player but to the Bills? Beekman? Hes good but not first round good. Jarrett will go before Ginn. Woodley is far better than Abiamiri. I think you have to many O and D linemen going in the first round. The first round is where alot of teams like to get there skill posistion players

We might not use our 1st round pick on a DB but we need to find a #1 corner somewhere. I see us going offense early but stranger things have happened.

I don't see the bills going after a corner in the first round, but possibly second, but more likely 3rd. Last year was their year to go heavy on D I think this year they'll be concentrating on the O. Youboty could still be a great CB, so might as well give him a shot next year. If he has a full training camp under his belt and preseason who knows this kid was projected as high as the 1st round. So I highly doubt we'll go CB 1st.

I just think we need to go into camp with more than just MCGee and a prayer that Youboty will come through for us. Personally I think we'll get someone with a little experience.
