- I know when you see this headline, you have to be thinking, WTF? But after watching these guys tonight, and all season long - how cool they are, how collected, how they are never rattled, how they make crisp passes, how they have such anticipation of each other, it can only remind you the Soviet Red Army days of Makarov, Krutov, Larionov, Kamensky, Kasatonov, Fetisov, etc. They work as one five man unit, instead of a two man unit and a three man unit. Their logo even looks like it was created by the finest graphic artist in all of Stalingrad. Yes, I think the Buffalo Sabres closely resemble the Soviets, minus the forced collectivization, five year economic plans, COMINTERN meetings and Black Sea dachas. Lindy Ruff seems like a lot nicer guy than Viktor Tikhonov as well.
